Creative Obsession
When I look at this image, I see obsession and someone who has so thoroughly fallen in love with his craft that it has consumed him. And within this stream of obsession, there’s no sign of burnout or forcing, for somewhere in the ocean of possibility lives a thread of creativity that pulls us forward and generates life.
In a culture that has been disconnected from our creativity, most of us cannot fathom this level of obsession and connection to the world builder that lives within each of us.
When I see this image, I imagine this might have been what people like Jung, Davinci, and Tolkien experienced.
For me, they are examples of people who watered the seeds of their soul and brought forth the masterpiece that lived within those seeds.
They are people who got to know their world builder in ways most don’t believe is possible, and dedicated their entire lives to seeing to it that the cathedral was built.
Their life became their offering. Every experience became a part of their creation.
What was Tolkien’s experience like to witness the unfolding of The Lord of the Rings through his very finger tips, and to watch the characters come to life?
I can only hypothesize that it was a level of aliveness and connection to the pulse of creation that very few know the taste of.
A taste I certainly dream of…
Creativity Feeds the Spark
I believe humans are at their best when we are connected to the source of creation.
We are at our highest expression when tapping into the world builder within us and letting that world unfold in our lives.
It is the act of expressing what David Whyte called “the one line already written inside you”, and through that sacred task, becoming the oak tree the acorn always dreamed of.
The piece most people don’t understand is that we each have a world builder within us, and it has masterpieces and a magnum opus within it.
That level of experience is not reserved for the few but available to all, and it is our birthright to drink in its sweet nectar.
It is true that you are not Jung or Davinci, and thank god you aren’t. We don’t need another one of them, we need you and the canvas that awaits your brush stroke.
But the sad truth is that most people don’t believe this. We say things like “Im not a musician”, or "Im not creative", which to be blunt is a load of bull shit. It both makes me angry when I hear this and hurts my heart to know so many of us have given the keys to our creativity away.
A Species of Creators
Human beings are a species of creators with a unique ability to add to the masterpiece that life is and continue creating more beauty and unique ways of weaving together life.
Unfortunately, most humans today are stuck in consumption, which is a big part of why we are shriveling up in dis-ease, and the spark of life has gone out for most.
Simply put, humans are not doing what humans do.
So in a time where we are buried in mounds of consumption and the creative spark is hard to see, we must dream a dream bigger than the eye can see, and dare to believe that no matter how dimmed, the thread remains.
What would it be like if I fell so deeply in love with my creation?
What would it be like to lose track of time because I have become so immersed in what is coming through me?
And what would it be like to be able to dedicate my entire life to this creation?
Your creation could look a million different ways, and by no means is it limited to books, music, or art. It could be a business, an organization, etc.
The difference is that this creation is not coming from some social norm, cultural expectation, or what others have done, but rather, this is what is emerging from the center of your being. It is a thread you are pulling on from within.
For many, the obstacles to this will be facing the fear of not having a creative center, the fear of taking this courageous leap and falling on your face, or the fear of being judged by others while doing one of the most vulnerable acts one could do.
It is because of these fears and the courage required that the journey is as meaningful as it is.
Doing something someone else has done, or copying someone else’s blueprint, doesn’t take this kind of courage because one, you're not as connected to it as you would be if this were uniquely your creation, and also because people can point the finger at someone else if you fail.
My dream is that we all are doing the thing that terrifies us because we care about it so much, and the level of vulnerability it asks of us to show up.
My dream is that we all get to experience the feeling of purpose that comes with building the cathedral that lives within the blueprint of our soul.
It will be the thing that asks the most of you and probably the most challenging task of your life, but at the same time will be by far the most meaningful thing you ever do.
I believe we each have this cathedral consciousness within us, but it is dormant for many.
Cathedral consciousness dreams 50 years into the future and asks what you wish to build to leave for the world your great children will live within.
Can you imagine if we all operated with this level of foresight and vision? It would be a different world.
Like I said, I believe we all have cathedral consciousness and crave to live from this place, for it is in this space that we feel connected to a kind of purpose you didn’t know existed.
Nurture the Knowing
As you read these words, maybe you know this is you.
Maybe you can feel the desire for cathedral consciousness and know that your creation is currently blocked by outdated beliefs.
So what do we do?
If you're like most, you’ll say you want to start creating, you’ll hold the intention for a few days, and then it will fade.
Why? Because we need more than intention.
What would it be like to commit to connecting to your world builder and creation for 45 days alongside other people on the same journey?
What would it be like to nurture the cathedral consciousness and dream into the 50-year vision of your life within a community of fellow creators who can hold each other accountable to plant the seeds for the vision?
It’s hard to imagine what might come from this kind of momentum, but I can tell you that you will move beyond what you perceived was possible.
This is what I am offering you within my new program called The Forge.
